Coastal Retreat
1. We provided architectural and interior design for this 3,400 square foot, 4-bed 2-bath home near Otter Rock, Oregon. This photo was taken from Cape Foulweather; from the edge of the site, Devil's Punchbowl is visible.
2. Because it sits on an odd shaped lot, this house has an elongated plan. The most lived-in rooms are situated to take in the sweeping coastal views, while more utilitarian areas are concentrated on the street side of the house. This photo was taken from the deck off the artist's studio.
3. SRM specified a cedar siding that turns silver with age in an effort to make the home look as if it had been around for generations. The heavy lintel over stone piers at the door expresses the house's structure and substance.
4. The home features many custom-designed pieces of furniture. We used slim-profile drop lighting to avoid obstructing views.
5-6. The palette in the home is inspired by the coast's sandy beaches and rocky cliffs.
7. We specified fabrics with organic patterns for these media room chairs.
8. One of the residents is an author and artist. We paid special attention to creating contemplative rooms for these pursuits.
9. While the exterior of this home is traditional, we adorned the interior with contemporary lines.
