West Hills Condominium
1. With a nod to Portland's position on the Pacific Rim, this 1,100 square foot condominium combines the efficient elegance of Asian design with clean, modern lines. The designer makes a smaller living space seem large through efficient use of built-ins and expansive views. Hard edges are softened with indirect lighting, multiple textures and patterns, floor to ceiling draperies and a sophisticated color palette. Because the owner rarely eats in, the original dining room was transformed into a reading room.
2. This condominium is located in a 1981 Skidmore, Ownings and Merrill building in Portland's West Hills. For the remodel, additional lighting was added to showcase an extensive art collection. All paintings were created by local artists
3. Closets were removed to make a more generous entry.
4. In the kitchen old enclosed fluorescent light fixtures were replaced with a custom fabricated walnut grille with recessed track lighting; the lights cast filigreed shadows on the kitchen cabinets.
5. The metallic textured and screened wall covering was imported from the UK.
6-7. Built in storage makes efficient use of space throughout the condominium.
8. The overall aesthetic of the remodeled bathroom is that of distressed finishes and found objects. The light fixtures are from the owner's travels in Spain; a mirror was mounted in the shower to make shaving easier.
